Our Story

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Every family has a story. Ours is one shaped by heartbreak, resilience, redemption, and the incredible Brilliance of a little boy named Eli.

In 2022, Eli was diagnosed with autism, and life changed almost overnight. As a single father, I suddenly found myself navigating heartbreaking meltdowns, countless sleepless nights filled with prayer and uncertainty, and overwhelming IEP meetings that pulled me far outside my comfort zone and understanding. Every conversation about "placement," "services," and "behavioral support" felt tied to my child’s future and ability to thrive. There were moments of exhaustion, fear, and loneliness. Yet even in the hardest seasons, I could see something extraordinary in Eli — his intelligence, creativity, humor, and the unique way he saw the world.

During those difficult years, my daughter Mary Kate became a steady source of strength and encouragement. With grace beyond her years, she stood beside me through the chaos and uncertainty, reminding me that even in life’s most broken moments, family can bring healing, hope, and stability.

Then, when life felt at its heaviest, God answered prayers in a way I never could have imagined. He brought April into our lives.

April didn’t simply become my wife — she became part of the healing our family desperately needed. As an educator experienced in supporting students with IEPs and 504 plans, she understood the challenges we faced. But more importantly, she understood Eli. She stepped into our lives with compassion, patience, advocacy, and unconditional love. Over time, her bond with Eli became something far deeper than support alone. She made the incredible decision to officially adopt Eli as her own son — not because she had to, but because she loved him completely. In that moment, our family’s story changed forever. What once felt broken and uncertain began to feel whole, hopeful, and purposeful again.

Together, we realized our journey was never just about surviving hardship. It was about learning to recognize Brilliance in places where the world too often sees limitations.

That realization became the foundation of Raising Brilliance LLC, a hub for autism family support and IEP support.

The lighthouse on our homepage holds a particularly personal meaning for our family. At just five years old, Eli built a massive 2,065-piece LEGO lighthouse completely on his own. Watching him carefully work through every detail with focus, determination, and incredible problem-solving ability was one of the moments I truly realized just how gifted he was. While the world often focused on his diagnosis, I began to see something deeper — a brilliant mind, extraordinary perseverance, and a unique way of understanding the world.

That lighthouse became more than a LEGO set to us. It became a symbol of Eli’s Brilliance and a reminder that even in life’s storms, there is light, hope, and direction. Today, the lighthouse represents our mission to guide and encourage other families navigating autism, IEPs, 504 plans, and neurodiversity. We want Raising Brilliance to be a source of hope and support for families who may feel overwhelmed or alone on their journey, providing essential special education resources.

Raising Brilliance is more than a business or a brand — it is our testimony. It represents every late-night prayer, every difficult meeting, every hard-fought victory, and every moment God carried us when we thought we could not keep going. Our mission is to help families feel seen, supported, informed, and empowered as they navigate autism, special education, IEPs, and 504 plans.

Today, we share our story in hopes of helping other families walk their own journeys with courage, faith, and confidence. Through advocacy, resources, encouragement, and community, we want every parent to know this:

You are not alone.

Your child is not defined by a diagnosis.

And their Brilliance deserves to shine.
