April O’Steen, M.Ed., is a dedicated educator and parent advocate committed to helping children and families reach their fullest potential. With advanced training in special education and years of hands-on experience providing special education support for children with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral challenges, and diverse learning needs, April brings a unique blend of professional expertise, real-world experience, and heartfelt compassion to every family she serves.
She holds a Master of Education degree and is certified in K-12 Special Education and Early Childhood Education (Pre-K through 5th Grade) in both Georgia and Alaska. Throughout her career, April has collaborated closely with students, parents, educators, and multidisciplinary support teams to ensure children succeed academically, emotionally, socially, and behaviorally.
In addition to her work as an educator, April has previously served families through organizations such as Easterseals and Hope House, where she gained valuable experience in parent advocacy, supporting individuals and families facing complex emotional, behavioral, developmental, and mental health challenges. Through these roles, she worked alongside families navigating crisis situations, parenting struggles, recovery journeys, and the need for coordinated support services. Her experience included helping families access resources, strengthen parenting skills, build life stability, and create supportive environments where children and parents could thrive together.
These experiences deepened April’s understanding of the many challenges families may face outside the classroom and strengthened her passion for providing compassionate, individualized support.
What truly sets April apart is her ability to connect with families on a deeply personal level. As both an educator and mother, she understands how overwhelming it can feel to navigate IEP meetings, 504 plans, therapies, school services, behavioral concerns, and the daily realities of raising a neurodivergent child. She empathizes with the fear, exhaustion, uncertainty, and advocacy battles parents often face while simply trying to ensure their child is understood, supported, and given every opportunity to succeed.
This personal and professional journey inspired the creation of Raising Brilliance LLC. Through Raising Brilliance, April provides families with advocacy, educational guidance, practical resources, encouragement, and compassionate support designed to empower both children and parents with confidence and hope.
April believes every child possesses unique strengths, gifts, and brilliance. Her mission is to help families recognize those strengths, advocate effectively for their children, and create pathways for success—while reminding parents they never have to walk this journey alone.
